Rarely do we open our meetings with a monologue. However, the events of 9/11 needed to be reflected on. I was asked to share my opening remarks:
Today is 9/11 plus Five years. Five years ago the majority of our nation awoke to the fact that we were at war with Fanatical Islam. On that terrible morning 19 Young Middle Eastern Muslims hijacked four american planes and proceeded to launch an attack on our nation.
At 7:58 AM EST United Flight 175 Departed Boston for Los Angelos. The plane was hijacked..
One minute later American Airlines Flight 11 departed Boston for Los Angelos. The plane was hijacked.
8:01 AM EST United Flight 93 left New York bound for San Francisco. The plane was hijacked.
8:10 AM EST American Airlines Flight 77 Left Dulles International Airport in Washington DC bound for Los Angelos. The plane was hijacked.
8:46AM EST American Flight 11 from Boston crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City.
9:03 AM EST United Flight 175 crashed into the South Tower of the World Trade Center.
The FAA Shut down all New York area Airports.
9:21 AM EST all Bridges and Tunnels leading into New York City were ordered Shut Down.
9:25 AM EST The FAA grounded all domestic flights
9:45 AM American Flight 77 Crashed into the Pentagon
10:05 AM The South Tower of the World Trade Center collapsed at approximately the same moment they began evacuating the White House
10:10 AM A large section of one side of the Pentagon collapsed
10:10 AM United Flight 93 thanks to the valiant efforts of the passengers crashed into a wooded area in Pennslyvania instead of our nations capital.
10:28 AM The North Tower of the World Trade Center collapsed
During the five years that have followed that horrific day the United States has toppled the Taliban and Freed Afghanstan. The United States has toppled Saddam Hussein and Freed Iraq. In spite of the nightly news reports that our efforts in Iraq have been in vain the facts remain that they have staged 3 elections since Saddam was removed from power.
The Good News is that there has not been a single successful Terrorist attack within the border of the United States of America since 9/11. The bad news is that Al Queda is not dead and buried, they have launched successful attacks in Spain, Indonesia and England among other places in the last five years.
Despite the best efforts of the Howard Dean wing of the Democrat Party our military has done a stalwart job of defending the United States and destroying Al Queda. Although it is true that Usama Bin Laden still remains at large many of his closest aides and allies are now either dead or in American Custody.
The war is not yet won but so long as we continue to support President Bush’s War on Terrorism we will Succeed. I ask you all to join me in a moment of silent prayer for the victims of that terrible day and for our soldiers that are out there as we speak defending our freedom.
